The New York Yankee's
So the NY Yankee’s are World Series champions and I can’t say that I’m surprised at all. The NY Yankee’s have a huge payroll and have single handedly ruined baseball because they make it impossible for at least half the teams in the MLB to win the WS. The teams like the Royals and A’s have no chance on winning the World Series because the Yanks have basically bought every all star that was a free agent and made their team overwhelmingly good. When a team like the Yanks spends all this money to compete, other teams like the Mets and the Red Sox are obligated to do the same which makes baseball even more unfair. The NFL is a great league because any given year, any team can go from the worst team to the best team. Nobody has a clue who is going to win the Super Bowl and over the last few years the Team that lost in the Super Bowl never makes it back to the playoff’s that following year. I think this is a good example why the MLB needs a salary cap. I believe this is the only way the MLB can once again surpass the NFL and become the most exciting sport in the country. I personally am a Yankee hater if you can’t already tell, but it is not because they are a flashy team, it is simply because they have ruined a sport that I use to enjoy. If you don’t believe my statements please do some research and tell me who has had the highest payroll in baseball the last 4 years? So all you Yankee fans can sit around and cheer for the evil empire known as the yanks and I will be on the other side of the spectrum rooting for any team that the yanks happen to be playing on the very same day. The Yankee’s should change their name to the American League All Star team and call it a day. Thank you all, responses are welcome.

Well I have to say this is a great blog. I am a Yankee fan so I may have some things to say that you might not agree with, and I can go back and forth on this all day but we are both going to have our opinions. You are right what the Yankees pay their players is absolutely ridiculous I agree. What happened to baseball being played for the love of the game, and not what a great player is payed? The redsox and the mets also have pretty good salries and pretty good teams (well not the mets, but the red sox are a pretty decent team even though I will hate them with all of my heart until the day I die). Your research is correct the Yankees have had the highest payroll in the MLB for atleast the past four year but they haven't won a World Series in nine years. Whether they scoop up all the good players in the league or not, obviously they weren't doing anything right because they were not producing on the field even with all the free agents. So you may want to control that hate a little bit and let all the Yankee fans be happy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you greatly on this issue. I have never been involved with baseball that much because I played softball and hated watching it on tv because it as a very slow game. I love to play and since the last year or so I have started to like the Yankees mostly because of my boyfriend and I could not escape him telling me about the game. But back to the story, I do respect your opinions and I agree with you fully. They all get paid way too much and it has made the sport seem unfair. Because of their huge salary they can afford to take the best players in the league and fire the ones who were horrible that season. It just does not seem like a regular sport anymore. It is not fair because baseball used to be and to many is still America's best past time but to me the NFL seems to passing it because of its popularity and fairness to all. I agree that the MLB and the Yankees should have a salary cap it would make the world series more intersting.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy you wrote this, for once someone said something negative about the yankees. I am so tired of hearing about them and how "great" they are. I really liked what you had to say and it is similar to a lot of what i think, but dont say. You had a very strong opinion and im slightly impressed that you didnt care and went with it anyway. And if anyone disagrees, well who cares, its your opinion. Very good!
ReplyDeleteWhile I am a DIE-HARD Yankee fan, you bring up some valid points for initiating a salary cap in baseball. As far as my opinion goes, I am obviously on the opposite side spectrum, so I would be against that. In baseball, yes your right there are a few teams that are good every year - Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, etc. Year in a year out these teams compete for, and in the playoffs. However, in the NFL, although there's a salary cap, the Pats, Colts, and a handful of other teams are consistently dominant year in and year out. And on the other side, if every thing was fare the Lions wouldn't go winless in one season. If sports were all about spending money, the Yankees would go 162-0 for the season and win every year, but like Melissa said they just finally won after nine years. So while you are right, teams like the Royals and Pirates have absolutely no chance to compete, a lot that goes in to championship teams is personal (i.e. - the reason the Rays made it to the World Series last year).
