Should college athletes get paid for playing sports ( college football)

As we all know college's all around the world gain millions and millions of dollars in revenue because of their sports programs. In the news today, a USC running back was lifting weights ( for football) and had an extremely rare accident. While working out his hand slipped and the weights fell on his throat. He had to go in for immediate surgery, which lasted 7 hours. He is a senior and had currently lead the team in rushing TD’s this season with 5. These college students have to do everything that the pros do when regarding obligations. They workout, train, study the game and play the game as well. So if they do indeed have all these extra obligations, shouldn’t they be paid at least some of the revenue that the University receives?

  1. I agree with you that college athletes do work as hard as pros do. As much as I'm sure some college students would love to get paid for playing I do not think that they should be paid. If you go to a DI school, and you are good enough to be looked at and possibly drafted then that's great. In a DI school you are pretty much going to play sports and hopefully turn pro so you could make the money like a celebrity does. But their main priority should be playing the sport and enjoying the sport for what it is, instead of thinking of it as a buisness until if they make it to the professional leagues.

  2. I think if you are a college athlete that you should not get paid. Thats what the pro-leagues are for. If you are great enough athlete than you can make pros and get paid. Athletes in college do have to balance their lives in between sports, school, friends and family. Yes this is more proffesional than high school sports but isnt as proffesionl as the NHL or NFL. College sports are still for enjoyment and not for a job yet.
